• Indivisible views the current political climate as a constitutional crisis driven by creeping authoritarianism which demands broad-based, peaceful organizing across the country.
  • "No Kings Day," a next big national day of action scheduled for June 14th (Flag Day and Donald Trump's birthday), intended to be a widespread, local protest against Trump's perceived authoritarian tendencies and planned military parade.
  • The co-founders emphasized the importance of building local power through grassroots organizing to influence politicians and push back against the administration's actions, addressing various member concerns about political strategy, media, and government overreach.

In a recent "What's the Plan?" discussion call, Indivisible co-founders Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg shared updates and insights on their movement's strategy and current political landscape.

Indivisible operates on the fundamental belief that massive, broad-based peaceful organizing is the only solution to creeping authoritarianism. They view the actions of Trump and congressional Republicans as threatening the very foundations of American democracy. While they support Democrats who fight back, they are not an arm of the Democratic party and are willing to criticize them loudly when they "cave or surrender". A core tenet is the belief in a constitutional republic where power flows from the people, not from a "king". They stress that courage is contagious, and every step taken in defense of democracy inspires others to follow suit.

Indivisible focuses on training and supporting normal everyday people to build and lead local, volunteer-led groups, believing that politics is too important to be left to the politicians. This local power, aggregated across communities, is seen as a practical ability to make institutions or individuals act in ways they otherwise wouldn't, providing leverage that mere tweets lack.

A major announcement during the briefing was the planned national day of action on June 14th, designated as "No Kings Day". This date was chosen for several reasons: it's a Saturday for ease of participation, it's Flag Day – a chance to "reclaim the flag" and patriotism for a pluralistic democracy – and it's also Donald Trump's 79th birthday. The co-founders noted reports that Trump is planning a large, expensive military parade in D.C. for his birthday, viewing this as an act of a leader who "thinks he can rule like a king". "No Kings Day" is designed to create a stark contrast to this, redirecting energy away from downtown D.C. and encouraging peaceful, joyful events literally everywhere else across the country.
